Mysterious Beast - Goatman

A mysterious creature plagues the imagination of countless victims who swear they’ve seen a strange goat-like hybrid man lurking behind the shadows. Have you heard the urban legend of the goatman?

The Legend of Goatman

It’s weird how the Greeks had a similar legend 3,000 years ago, but they just called it the Satyr. Could the could man have existed that long and why would it be in Greek mythology.

Brother Lions Fight for Mate

In a very rare sighting recently at the Masai Mara Wildlife Reserve in Kenya, two brother Lions were captured in a ferocious fight of tooth and claw in order to win the affection of a lioness and for control over their pride.

On hand were seasoned photographers Laurent Renaud and Dominique Haution, both teachers from Northern France. Miss Haution explained: “When lions want to take over a pride, the old lions fight with the new ones. But seeing two lion brothers fighting, one against the other, is a very rare sighting. We were very lucky to witness it, and both lions unfortunately ended up with serious wounds. But that’s just what happens in the wild and we would never interfere with nature.”

Just 15 minutes after the bloody brawl, the triumphant brother claimed his prize by mating with the lioness. The photographers described this to be a truly amazing moment.

Severed Cobra Head Kills Chef

A Chef died after being bitten by the severed head of a spitting cobra he was preparing a meal for at a birthday party. This all went down in the Foshan, the Guangdong providence of Southern China.

Spitting Cobra Head Bites Chef

So is it possible for a decapitated snake head to kill things?

“hell yes…” was snake expert Sean Bush’s response. “Its a last ditch effort to survive.”

Chef Peng Fan was preparing snake soup for a guests birthday party using an Indochinese spitting cobra.

Equatorial-spitting-cobraThe snake’s head had been decapitated for a full 20 minutes before this occurred.

The chef had diced up the snake for the soup, picked up the head and was throwing it into the trash when it bit him.

This is apparently very common because snakes have a very slow metabolic rate.

This allows the brain of the snake, the venom glands and the venom delivering muscles to function up to an hour even after the blood supply has been cut off.

When the cobra bit Chef Peng, he was injected with a flesh-killing, neurotoxic venom which paralyzes the respiratory system causing you to asphyxiate, which basically means you suffocate due to lack of oxygen.

The chef could have been saved by anti-venom if they could have gotten it to him on time.

But according to the report, authorities said the chef had a “very severe reaction to the bite.”

Here is a video of a copperhead that was actually filmed biting itself

Elephant Calf Takes on Huge Buffalo Bull

This over-confident elephant calf learned a valuable life lesson recently as he tried to take on a huge buffalo bull at the Spekboom lagoon in Addo Elephant National Park.

The calf was among a herd of elephants refreshing themselves when an adult buffalo walked towards the water to join them.

Most of the elephants paid little attention to the buffalo however the calf was not thrilled by his presence. In a bizarre attempt to intimidate the massive buffalo, the calf charged hoping to scare him out of the area.

The fearless calf received a rude awakening as the buffalo bull lunged at him with his huge horned head sending him flying several feet in the air. While he escaped physical injury, his pride was undoubtedly hurt and he spent the rest of the day hiding behind his mother.

What was very surprising was that the other elephants were in no way disturbed by this event, almost as if it were a life lesson the young calf had to learn.

How Many Rattlesnakes Can Fit in Your Mouth?

Jackie Bibby, also known as The Texas Snake Man, is quite a celebrity in the snake community. The snake handler, who specializes in rattlesnakes, has been performing unbelievable stunts and charming snakes for over forty years.

Bibby made his rise to fame when he earned a few of the most obscure records ever recorded in the Guinness books. They include, “Holding the most rattlesnakes in mouth,” (13) “Laying in a bathtub with the most snakes,” (195) “Laying in a sleeping bag with the most rattlesnakes,” (109) “Sacking 10 rattlesnakes the fastest,” (17.11 seconds) and “Head first in a sleeping bag with the most rattlesnakes.” (24)

These impressive records have remained undefeated for years and will likely remain unchallenged.

Jackie Bibby

Bibby was inspired by rattlesnakes when he first attended a rattlesnake roundup in Texas at the age of 18.

“You’re never more alive than when you’re near death,” Bibby claims. By this claim, Jackie has been very lively as he has been bitten on at least twelve separate occasions by rattlesnakes during his decades of handling.

One of these incidents resulted in the amputation of part of his right leg near the knee, though that hardly slowed Bibby down. With a unique passion for the snakes, he has continued to hunt them, charm them and entertain the world with them. Jackie Bibby has even become a popular figure on Animal Planet since his show “Rattlesnake Republic” took off.

Bibby exposing himself to real snakes and danger can be seen on the show, which has multiple seasons already aired. In one episode, Jackie getting bit for the 10th time can be seen!

Even though Jackie has faced a lot of troubles from the snakes, it is unlikely that he will ever write them off. He has dedicated his life to rattlesnake handling and still has quite a passion for it after so many years. “I’m not going to quit something that has done this much for me,” Jackie said after a recent bite.

9 Rarest Animal Species on Earth

There are so many different animals living in many places of the world. We know most of them, but there are others that are very rare; so rare that most people don’t even know about them.

Those species are critically endangered and could face extinction in the future. These are ten of the rarest animals on earth:

World’s Rarest Animal Species

Amur Leopard

Leopard_rareThis animal lives in the Primorye region of Russia. It is so rare, that in a census that took place in 2007, they counted only around fourteen to twenty adults and from five to six cubs.

Those really are very low numbers, and that’s why the International Union for Conservation of Nature decided to consider it a critically endangered species.

This beautiful feline is a subspecies from the leopard.

When they are in their habitat, they tend to live from ten to fifteen years, but they live up to twenty years when they live in captivity.

The Amur leopard is also called by other names like the Far East leopard, the Manchurian leopard and the Korean leopard.

Sumatran Rhinoceros

Sumatran_Rhinoceros_endangeredIt is estimated that there are around 275 of this rhinoceros left in existence.

They are valuable targets for poachers and that is why this species has become so rare.

This type of rhinoceros have two horns and they are the smallest of all rhinoceros.

Before the number of individuals lowered, you could find them in the Eastern Himalayas, eastern India, Myanmar, Thailand and with a slight chance in Vietnam and China.

Unfortunately, now you can only find them –with a lot of luck– in the Sumantra and Borneo Islands.

Alongside the Javan rhino, the Sumantran rhino is the most threatened rhino species.

Western Lowland Gorilla

Western Lowland GorillaWhat makes this subspecies different from the other gorillas, is that they are slightly smaller than others, they have brown-grey coats and auburn chests.

You can find this gorillas in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo and Equatorial Guinea.

Over the last 20 to 25 years, the number of individuals has decreased around 60%.

Some scientists say that it would take about 75 years  for the species to recover.

Two of the causes that made the number of individuals to go downhill was hunting and the Ebola virus.

Mountain Pygmy Possum

rare-mountain-pygmy-possumFor many years, scientists thought that this species was extinct. It is very rare but can still be found in Australia. This Australian mammals like to go into hibernation when their environment gets too cold.

Usually they prefer high altitudes. Compared to their body –around 110mm– their tail is very long –140mm– and they have an either grey or brown back and cream underbelly, chin and cheeks.

The number of individuals has been decreasing a lot for several reasons.

Their habitat has been destroyed by human constructions  and also there are a lot of predators like foxes and cats in their environment.

Philippine Crocodile

endangered-crocodile-speciesCompared to other crocodiles, it is very small; males don’t grow up more than 10 feet.

It is also a freshwater crocodile. They have from 66 to 68 teeth, have dermal bones that make up plates to protect their backs.

They usually eat mammals, birds and reptiles as well.

Other kinds of crocodiles can live up to one hundred years, but until now, scientists haven’t been able to tell the average life span of these specific crocodiles.

If we don’t take into account the individuals living in captivity, there are less than one hundred living in their habitat.

Sumatran Orangutan

Orangutan-Columbus-zooThese orangutans live in Sumantra, Indonesia.

They live mostly among trees and in rainforests, and because of the excessive deforestation, this orangutan has struggled a lot to survive. In the last 75 years, the number of individuals has dropped by around 80%.

Before the number drop, you could find this orangutans in all of the Sumantra island and in the south of Java, but now most of them are located in North Sumantra and Acech.

There are nine populations in existence and only three of them surpass 1,000 individuals.

Besides deforestation, the illegal trade has been the biggest cause of the decrease of the species.

Northern Bald Ibis

rarest species in the worldMany years ago it was thought that this species was extinct, but in 2002 they were rediscovered living in the desert of Syria.

The endangerment of its habitat and hunting are the main causes of the decrease of numbers of the species.

They are very unique in appearance and not like any other birds in the world.

They have naked heads and crests, have black plumage and it can look orange, purple and green depending on the angle of the sun.

The only place where you can find this bird is in Morocco.

Black-Eyed Tree Frog

Agalychnis_moreletii03Scientists have predicted that in the next ten years, the number of individuals will fall about 80%.

It lives in Mexico and other parts of South America like Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Belize.

They are very good when they have to camouflage and blend in with their habitat.

Their natural habitat has been threatened and partially destructed, and an infectious disease called the Chytrid fungus are the two reasons why this is a critically endangered species.

Lord Howe Island Stick Insect

Lord Howe InsectIn the 1920s it was thought that this insect was extinct. And it wasn’t after 90 years ago, in 2011 that the species was rediscovered on Ball’s Pyramid, a place very close to Lord Howe Island.

This insect is considered as the rarest in the world.

This insect faces many threats, one of them being the black rat.

The black rat was also the main cause of their “extinction” in the 1920s.

Another threat they face is how unsuitable their habitat is, which is considered a critically endangered species as well.

Assassin Spider Killer

The killer assassin spider species is the most deadly and dangerous spider versus other spiders. This attacking, biting, death dealing spider feeds primarily on its own kind as it has evolved over time as being a true ninja assassin.

Meet the Killer Assassin Spider

This weird 8 legged freak is also considered by many to be the world’s most grotesque spider.

This is the most dangerous spider in the world …if you happen to be another spider. Why? Because this is the Assassin Spider, a spider who lives to kill its own kind.

There are a couple of physical characteristics that makes this spider stand out among others. One is its really long jaws. In fact, the assassin spiders jaws are 10x’s longer than that of any other spider.

assassin_spider

The Incredible Assassin Spider

Another unique feature is its long slender neck that evolved over time to keep its jaws from dragging on the ground.

This long elegantly slender neck makes the spiders profile look like bird which earned it the more friendly nickname Pelican Spider.

This killer spider may only be as big as a grain of rice, but it is a smart, deliberate, methodical killer that has been known to stalk its prey for hours.

It waits patiently at the edge of another spider’s web plucking the silken string to get the attention of it’s next victim.

The ultimate spider assassin hunter!

This long jaw and neck allow the spider to attack its victim quickly and stealthily.

This hunting spider stakes out its victim and then pounces, delivering a powerful spider bite stabbing it with its fangs, pulling one fang out, and leaving the other in to do its dirty work, pumping the victim full of venom while keeping it at a safe distance.

Could you imagine meeting a giant assassin spider and having it attack and bite you??

map-assassin-spiderI don’t know about you guys, but I think I just found my new favorite spider species, serious, this death dealing spider killer is amazing!

If you ever happen to be in Australia or Madagascar you might come across one of these tiny arachnid terrors.

And if you do, be sure to bring a video camera, I’d love to see more footage of this amazing creature.

But fear not arachnophobes.

While they may be the ninja assassins of the spider world they’re not even close to being one of the most venomous spiders in the world as their venom is relatively harmless to humans.

According to Hannah Wood of the University of California, Davis they are shy, dropping to the ground when approached by humans.
